The STTC is a new 100,000 s.f. trades and technology centre on the Red River College Notre Dame Campus. The building contains major programming areas for Carpentry, Sheet Metal, Refrigeration, Machining/Robotics and Electrical trades, as well as ancillary classrooms, laboratories, student and faculty areas. The main mechanical systems are based on a hybrid energy source of well-to-well geothermal heating & cooling, supplemented by central plant steam. The cooling system uses untempered well water for cooling when conditions are favourable, eliminating compressor-based refrigeration altogether. The non-workshop spaces are conditioned with a high-efficiency DOAS system coupled with a combination of active chilled beams. The project was completed for the fall 2018 schoolyear. The project is designed to meet LEED Gold sustainability standards.
