This project added a much-needed component to the CMU campus with a new 23,000 sf library, learning commons, and bookstore, with a conditioned overpass over Grant Avenue connecting the new building to the south campus. Highly-efficient mechanical systems are based on air-air heat recovery, demand-control ventilation, and a cascading hydronic heating loop on condensing boilers. Special attention was paid to acoustics and sound & vibration control of mechanical equipment, with a highly successful final result in the library and learning commons. The electrical systems included feature lighting in the high ceiling learning commons area, and dramatic exterior lighting of the building.
